Site Updates

There have been quite a few changes and additions to the website this month so I thought I would take a moment to share some of them with you.

  • Points & Badges: Check out your user profile and you will see you now have a badge or two and a some coins. You can earn coins by browsing the website, posting comments, uploading a picture to your profile (this is a big one...20 coins) and other things around the site. The number of coins you collect will also affect your user badges in the forums. In the near future you will be able to earn even more coins by inviting your friends to the site and having them register. You will also be able to exchange your coins for discounts on products here on the Lost Treasure website. This is just one more way of saying THANK YOU for all you do.
  • Buddies are Back: Check out the new buddies list by going to TH'ers Info -> Treasure Buddies and see what you think. We already have nearly 2500 registered users of the website that you may connect with. Let's see how many we can get this month, tell your friends to create an account and fill out their profile!
  • Forum Attachments: You can now attach photos and other documents to your forum topics and comments. This feature is only available to registered users, so create a free account today if you haven't already and start posting those finds to our forums for everyone to see.
  • New Products: The mall has been growing lately and now includes the ability to purchase articles from the Lost Treasure Archives and over 1,500 historic maps (I will be adding some more descriptive text to these shortly)
  • New Features: You can now add some information about your self such as where you live, and your actual first and last name to your user profile once you are registered with the site. You can also set each field to either display only for you or publicly for everyone to see. Filling out your user profile will also make the sweepstakes entries alot faster as the site will automatically fill in any information you have entered in your profile once you login. In addition, the city, state, and country profile tags link to pages showing you all of the other members of the website from that location. This should replace the old 'Treasure Buddies' we had on the old site for connecting with people in your area. So spread the word and get your friends to register with the site and fill out their profiles. I know it may seem a bit redundant, but the information under 'addresses' is just for product shipping in the mall and not part of your user profile that can be viewed by others. Ohh, and just so you know, you can access your profile by clicking 'My account' on the left then 'Edit' and 'my profile'. Hope to see you all filling those out soon!

Important Information

In response to a few of the most commonly asked questions I have been receiving since the launch of the new site I decided to put together a pretty informal question and answer type list.

  • Q: Why does the site tell me my email address is unknown? I have been getting emails from you for years!
  • A: The mailing list we use to send out emails to our readers is nothing more than just a list of email addresses that have opted to receive our newsletter and other promotional emails. That list does not have any login names or passwords associated with it and we were unable to transfer any of what we did have on the old website to the new one as far as user records were concerned. So, if you would like to login to the new website and participate in the forums and other interactive areas of the website please register for a new account here: http://www.losttreasure.com/user/register
  • Q: Why does the website keep telling me I have already submitted an entry for the sweepstakes?
  • A: There has been quite a bit of confusion and misinformation surrounding this apparent issue, so I would like to clarify it here once and for all. The old site did not have any control to limit the number of times a person entered the sweepstakes. There were numerous instances where the same individual was recorded entering 50 times and more in one day. Here, we tried to resolve that issue and force a one entry per day limit in order to make winner selection more fair for everyone involved. However, I have since removed that restriction on the regular monthly sweepstakes as it seemed to be causing more problems than it solved. You may now enter 2x per 24Hour period, this should allow everyone plenty of flexibility while still keeping things fair and even.

About Us

A History of Lost Treasure

By André Hinds
Editor, Lost Treasure magazine 1983-1987, 1995-1997

This magazine began as True Treasure, first published as a quarterly magazine in the fall of 1966. It was published by a man named John H. Latham, who preferred to be called "Long John." Latham, a long-time writer of adventure stories, had been published in many of the popular men's magazines of the 1950s, which included titles such as Argosy, True, Saga and Swank. True Treasure wasn't the first magazine Latham had started. More than a decade before starting True Treasure, he had started offshore, a magazine for the offshore oil industry, which is still being published today.
